A senior high school student from the province of Dinagat Islands adds another international academic achievement to the Philippines’ growing list of honors in global scholastic competitions.
Glaizel Mae S. Morados, a Grade 12 Senior High School student at Don Ruben E. Ecleo Sr. Memorial National High School, secured a gold medal at the International Science Olympiad Competition of Southeast Asia (ISOCSEA) held in Osaka, Japan in December.

Her victory comes amid a wave of Filipino students excelling in international olympiads,
reflecting the country’s growing presence in global academic arenas, particularly in science and mathematics.In a Facebook post, Morados captured her awarding moment, writing, “Her winning moment. International Science Olympiad Competition in Southeast Asia (ISOCSEA) Gold Awardee.”
The Osaka International Round gathered around 800 participants representing 11 countries. The event was organized by the Global League of Winners, which conducts international academic contests designed to test knowledge and analytical skills across various scientific disciplines.
ISOCSEA features categories for primary, junior secondary, and senior secondary levels. It sees students from Grades 1 through 12 to compete in fields such as biology, chemistry, physics, and earth and environmental sciences. The competition is structured not only to recognize academic excellence but also to foster collaboration and cultural exchange among students from different countries.
Beyond the medals and rankings, the olympiad also carries a broader mission. Organizers aim to encourage proficiency in mathematics and science through friendly global competitions while promoting tourism and regional cooperation across Southeast Asia.
Previous and planned rounds have highlighted destinations across the region, including the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia, before expanding to partner countries worldwide.
