Ahead of her upcoming concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on May 16, international singing champion Jessica Sanchez faced members of the media and reflected on reconnecting with Filipino talent and proudly representing Filipinos on the global stage.
The Fil-Am singer spoke warmly about sharing the stage with “The Voice” winner Sofronio Vasquez during the 48th ASEAN Summit, revealing that their chemistry extended beyond performing.

“Oh my gosh, I love Sofronio. He is so awesome, not only as a talent but also as a person.” She added that both she and her husband immediately connected with Vasquez, even inviting him to visit Texas for a possible collaboration.
Collaborations with other Filipino artists
Beyond Vasquez, the singer admitted she has a growing wishlist of Filipino artists she hopes to collaborate with while in the country. Sanchez even shared that she is considering extending her stay in Manila to make that happen.
“There are tons of artists, and that’s why I’m just so excited to be back here in Manila. I really, really am hoping that I can extend and stay and hopefully collaborate with many, many more Filipino artists out there,” she added.
Filipino artists gaining global recognition
During the press conference, Sanchez also opened up about what it means to witness more Filipinos gaining international recognition, especially after Filipino singer Matty Juniosa recently earned a Golden Buzzer moment on Britain’s Got Talent.
The singer became emotional while talking about her own journey as a Filipino Mexican artist growing up in Texas and navigating an entertainment industry where she once felt underrepresented.
Sanchez shared that while many people see her today as a symbol of “Pinoy pride,” her rise was not always easy behind the scenes.
“People kind of telling me I couldn’t do certain things when I was younger because I was Filipino Mexican.”
She recalled how difficult it was for Filipinos to break through in an industry largely dominated by other groups at the time. Now, seeing more Filipino artists like Juniosa, athletes, dancers and actors thrive globally makes her feel proud of her roots.
As she prepares for her Manila concert, Sanchez said she remains thankful for the opportunity to use her platform to represent Filipinos worldwide.
“It actually makes me feel really special to be able to have a platform to share on my own to represent the Filipino people as well,” she expressed.
