A new cross-border music moment is on the horizon as Korean Canadian actor Ahn Hyo-seop joins forces with American R&B star Khalid for the upcoming single “Something Special,” set to drop on May 22.
The collaboration was unveiled through a shared Instagram announcement. The caption read, “‘Something Special’ with Khalid + Ahn Hyo-seop. Friday 5.22. Khalid’s first single with a Korean artist. Ahn Hyo-seop’s first as a solo artist. The second release from FANDOM.”

Behind the project is a partnership between Korean music investment platform MUSICOW and global entertainment company Roc Nation. The single is also part of the larger FANDOM album initiative, which previously rolled out “Two Car Garage” by Jon Bellion and Swae Lee.
Hyo-seop’s involvement in music may come as a surprise to casual viewers, but longtime supporters have long known about his musical roots.
He recently gained renewed buzz for lending his voice to Jinu, the leader of the fictional boy group Saja Boys in the Netflix animated feature K-Pop Demon Hunters.
Currently, Hyo-seop is also appearing in the drama “Sold Out On You” in Netflix. His acting career includes well-loved titles such as “Still 17,” “Dr. Romantic,” “Business Proposal” and “A Time Called You.”
Before stepping into the spotlight as an actor, he trained under JYP Entertainment and was once in line to debut alongside members of GOT7, a path he eventually left behind in favor of acting.
Meanwhile, Khalid continues to stand as one of the defining R&B voices of his generation. His breakout project American Teen introduced a signature laid-back yet emotionally resonant sound that has since connected with listeners worldwide.
