Liverpool parade crash suspect Paul Doyle wipes away tears as he appears in court facing 31 charges

The dad who has been accused of ploughing his car into a crowd at Liverpool FC’s victory parade, injuring at least 134 people has appeared in court.

Paul Doyle, 54, confirmed his name at Liverpool Crown Court after being charged with 31 offenses, including assault against one six-month-old and one seven-month-old.

Footage at the time showed a Ford Galaxy striking fans and trapping some under its wheels, as people made their way back from watching the parade on Water Street on May 26.

Doyle, a former Royal Marine commando, appeared in the dock in the first day of the trial wearing a black suit and glasses.

When asked to confirm his name, he said: ‘Yes I am.’

Liverpool Football Club were celebrating winning their second Premier League title when the car drove into crowds.

The ages of the injured range from nine to 78-years-old. They have all since been discharged from hospital.
