Major store set to close 255 locations by next week – see full list

The beloved fabrics and crafts retail chain Joann is set to close one-third of its locations by the end of this month – and all the rest by May.

Joann, which filed for bankruptcy in January, will close the doors of 255 of its stores by next week, said Jo Anne McCusker, a spokesperson for the company’s lender and retail liquidator GA Group.

The stores started going-out-of-business sales shortly after the bankruptcy announcement, which was the second such filing in 11 months.

More than 500 Joann stores that are still operating will shutter by the end of May, as GA Group’s Retail Solutions and Wholesale & Industrial Solutions teams CEO Scott Carpenter announced in February.

‘This was a very difficult decision to make, given the major impact we know it will have on our team members, our customers and all of the communities we serve,’ a Joann spokesperson told CNN at the time.

The Hudson, Ohio-based chain sold products for more than eight decades and had more than 800 locations throughout the US before it started the process to wind down.

It is among American retailers struggling to survive and closing dozens to hundreds of stores. In January, department store giant Macy’s confirmed it would close 66 locations across 22 states this year.
