President Donald Trump said he wants to be the next pope and held a Gulf of America hat on his way to a rally celebrating his first 100 days back in office.

Trump smiled as he was asked by a reporter outside the White House who he believes should succeed Pope Francis, who died last week.

‘As pope? I’d like to be pope,’ the president joked on Tuesday afternoon.

‘That would be my number one choice.’

Trump then said ‘I don’t know’ and ‘I don’t have a preference’ on who should be elected the new pontiff, but mentioned the Archbishop of New York, Timothy Dolan.

‘I must say we have a cardinal out of a place called New York who is very good, so we’ll see what happens,’ said Trump.

While departing the South Lawn, Trump clutched a cap of his signature MAGA red color with ‘Gulf of America’ embroidered in white. The hat had the American flag on the left side and ’47’ on the right side.

Trump boarded Air Force One en route to Michigan, where he will hold is rally at Macomb Community College at 6pm. He is scheduled to visit Selfridge Air National Guard Base before speaking at the rally marking the 100th day of his second term.

On Monday, Trump ripped polls that showed his approval ratings sank since he announced tariffs on America’s trading partners.

Trump on Tuesday afternoon signed two executive orders to ease some measures of his tariffs on the automobile industry. It gives carmakers paying a 25% tariff on auto imports relief from other levies on materials such as aluminum and steel.

His rally is taking place in Warren, about 20 miles northeast of Detroit, which is nicknamed Motor City and considered the automotive capital of the world.
