A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening people with an axe in a Wetherspoon pub in Devon.

Devon and Cornwall Police officers went to the scene at the White Hart Hotel on Fore Street, Okehampton, at about 6pm on Sunday, after receiving reports a man had threatened pubgoers with a weapon.

The suspect left the pub before the officers arrived and a police helicopter was used to search the area for him, the force said.

This comes after three people were injured in a knife fight at a Birmingham Wetherspoon’s in January.

A woman, identified as the pub manager, was taken to hospital after she was stabbed in the arm at the Navigation Inn on Wharf Road, Kings Norton.

Her injuries were not believed to be life threatening, but she has required surgery, a Wetherspoons spokesperson told Metro.
