A teenage boy has suddenly died after becoming unwell on a school bus on Monday afternoon in Scotland.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the A92 Halbeath roundabout, Dunfermline, Fife, at 1.45 pm yesterday.

Police said the 15-year-old boy, a student at Beath High School, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He and other students had been travelling from Beath High School to Fife College during lunchtime.

Officers said the death is being treated as unexplained, and investigations are continuing, but the school told parents the situation ‘deteriorated rapidly’.

‘We are looking after our young people and arranging support across the school community, providing space, time and help to those who need it.’

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: ‘His death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.’

The death of the teenager comes days after multiple teenage pupils were hospitalised after a chemical spill in a North Staffordshire school.

Three teenagers and two adults at Biddulph High School were taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital for treatment.

In a social media post to parents, the school said: ‘An issue was identified with a piece of science equipment and following our normal processes and procedures, emergency services attended.

‘They have confirmed the site is safe for normal operations to continue. We are grateful for the swift and professional response of our staff and students and the support provided by the emergency services.

‘The wellbeing and safety of our students and staff remain our highest priority.’
