The Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association, which eventually became the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), first presented the Golden Globe Awards in 1944.

Through many decades, the association of international journalists oversaw the success of the Globes as Hollywood’s Party of the Year, which honors excellence in film and television. In addition, HFPA, a non-profit organization, became one of Hollywood’s biggest philanthropists, awarding over $55 million so far in grants to support arts, education, journalism and film restoration programs.

In 2023, Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge acquired the Golden Globes and made it a for-profit entity. Despite some previous reports, HFPA has not been officially dissolved. The Golden Globe Foundation, a non-profit organization composed of members of the HFPA, who are all voters of the Golden Globe Awards, continues HFPA’s philanthropy legacy.
