Passengers on Beatles mystery tour bus run into actual Sir Paul McCartney

Beatles fans taking a tour around Liverpool were stunned, to say the least, when singer Sir Paul McCartney drove past them.

But when the Beatlemaniacs squinted, they realised that Sir Paul was on the phone to another Fab Four member, drummer Ringo Starr.

Magical Mystery Tour bus guide Tony Curley, 71, said seeing Sir Paul on Monday was ‘surreal’.

Sir Paul was casually being driven down Hope Street towards the Cathedral at the same time the bus tour was happening.

‘We pulled up at the red lights and there he was waving whilst sat in the back of a car,’ Tony said.

‘We pulled our window down and, like a proper Scouser, he said to us, “You alright, lads?”

‘Of course we were – as a Beatles fan seeing Paul for the first time was amazing.’

Tony jumped on his microphone and told the Beatles fans to get their phones out.

‘He then waved at everyone on the bus and pulled out Ringo on his phone,’ Tony added.

‘It probably only lasted a minute but was a magical coincidence.’

Breno Augusto, a Portuguese Beatles superfan and blogger, couldn’t believe it either.

‘Imagine exploring Liverpool aboard the Magical Mystery Tour bus -[on Monday] – when, just when you least expect it, you glance at a car and see Paul McCartney inside, chatting with Ringo Starr!!!!’ he posted on X.

The Magical Mystery Tour takes fans of the Beatles around Liverpool, showing where the band grew up and kick-started their career.

The two-hour ride ends at the Cavern Club, a converted underground vegetable warehouse where the Beatles performed in the early 1960s long before their ascent to stardom.

Liverpool is now filled with Beatles statues, museums, gift shops and, of course, rentable yellow submarine houseboats along the dockyards.

Sir Paul was back in his hometown to present Adolescence star Stephen Graham with an award from his school, the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.

‘Guess who’s back in town,’ the official Liverpool Instagram page said yesterday, sharing a photo of Sir Paul giving a thumbs up from a car.
