Seven baby goats were snatched from a popular petting zoo under the cover of a raging thunderstorm.

Staff at Christmas Tree Farm in Kent found the distressed mother goat screaming out for her babies, who are just over a month old, on Tuesday morning.

The kid goats were popular with families, often seen charging at each other and almost parkouring on the farm’s wooden play area.

Manager Paul Gubby said staff only realised something was wrong when the mother goats were calling out for their babies.

He told Kent Online: ‘We came in this morning and there was a little bit of damage from the floods last night.

‘Then we noticed the goats were making some noise, looking for their babies and calling their babies.

‘We looked around the farm and they were gone.

‘I think they’ve taken a gate off to use it to herd them in and round them up,’ he added.

Mr Gubby said the theft had been especially upsetting because the baby goats were popular with visitors.

He said: ‘It was devastating because all the children we get up here love to see the goats and now they’re gone.

‘We’d just like their safe return really, no questions asked.’

Fans of the petting zoo were left disgusted by the theft.

One wrote on the appeal ‘This is happening more and more. I wonder why?I’m so sorry. Hope they’re found safe.’

Another said: ‘How cruel some people are. What a sad world we live in!’
