Two stages, two singing competitions, and now, two Filipino champions.

They are Sofronio Vasquez and Jessica Sanchez – and 2025 is shaping up to be a golden year of redemption for these two world-class powerhouse singers.

Both have weathered setbacks, near-misses and countless rejections, only to be “redirected” to their ultimate triumphs.

Vasquez, who made history as the first Filipino and Asian to win “The Voice,” couldn’t hide his excitement when fellow Filipino American talent Sanchez clinched victory on “

On his Instagram story, he was seen watching the finale, cheering for her win with an enthusiastic “eyyyyyy!” audible in the background.

For Vasquez, who had once endured heartbreaks on “Tawag ng Tanghalan” before rising to international glory, Sanchez’s win felt like a shared triumph for the Filipino community.

That long-awaited moment of redirection finally came for Sanchez, the powerhouse vocalist who has spent much of her career on the brink of greatness.

Hours after her crowning as this season’s AGT champion, she went live to thank fans, calling the experience “crazy.” 

She confessed she hadn’t even rewatched the finale yet but already knew she was “a complete mess on stage, emotionally.” The adrenaline from interviews kept her going until she finally slipped into her pajamas to “soak it all in.”

Sanchez’s journey with AGT began when she was just 10 years old, reaching the semifinals during the show’s inaugural season. Six years later, she came heartbreakingly close again as the runner-up of American Idol Season 11. Now, more than a decade later, her journey has come full circle.

Her powerhouse performance of Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga’s “Die With a Smile” sealed the deal, bringing the judges and audience to their feet.
