Teacher ‘caught on camera urinating’ in his classroom

A middle school teacher has been placed on leave after a video appeared to show him peeing in a cup before students walked into class.

At Granite Oaks Middle School in Rocklin, California, eighth-grade history teacher Dan Champ appeared to unbutton his pants and urinate in a container just out of view of the student filming.

School officials said they are investigating the teacher, who has more than 25 years of experience.

The Sacramento Bee obtained the footage, in which Champ was heard saying: ‘Gosh, that’s good. Gosh gosh gosh gosh gosh gosh gosh.’

He then picked up the container, appeared to pour it out and then muttered, ‘Love it, love it.’

Shortly after, his students began filling the room when the bell rang.

No students appear to have been in the room when he was urinating, but the video began circulating and prompted an investigation after a parent told administrators.

An email to parents read: ‘This afternoon, after school dismissal, a parent and a staff member informed the School Administration of a video showing an employee engaging in conduct inconsistent with our professional standards.

‘While the unverified video does not involve any students or other staff, the employee has been placed on leave while Granite Oaks Middle School and the Rocklin Unified School District investigate the incident.

‘Although we are unable to share specific details, this matter is being taken seriously and will be addressed in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and legal requirements.’

One student, who was previously in Champ’s class, told the Sacramento Bee that she had heard rumours that Champ peed into a container between class periods.

‘It personally makes me feel disgusted knowing that I was in the room prior to him doing that near the spot that I used to sit,’ she said.

One parent said: ‘I saw the video. It was really weird, and there was enough time for him to go to the restroom.

‘Per the children, this is a regular occurrence. My daughter’s friend, who is a junior, remembers being in his class and it always smelling weird.’
