Filipina American presence at the AMAs was not a footnote this year.
When Filipino representation at global award shows is usually about accepting awards and nominations, the 2026 American Music Awards (AMA) told a louder story that placed Filipina American talent at the center of the stage.
One of the most commanding returns came from Nicole Scherzinger, who reunited with the Pussycat Dolls, alongside Ashley Roberts and Kimberly Wyatt, for a full-scale comeback performance 20 years after their AMA debut.
Dressed in coordinated red latex, the trio tore through a medley of their most recognizable hits such as “Don’t Cha,” “Buttons” and “When I Grow Up.”
But while the Pussycat Dolls carried the weight of pop legacy, a new Filipina American voice was carving out the future on the same stage.
Meanwhile, Sophia Laforteza and global girl group Katseye stepped into the same spotlight with a performance of their newest single, “Pinky Up.”
The performance featured a vibrant, high-impact set that matched the show’s larger-than-life scale.
Beyond the performance, Katseye had a breakthrough evening at the awards, taking home multiple honors in New Artist of the Year, Breakthrough Pop Artist and Best Music Video for “Gnarly.”
