Filipino American pop superstar Olivia Rodrigo proved that the biggest stars still find magic in intimate venues, making a surprise appearance at an open mic night in New York City.
The Grammy-winning artist slipped into Pete’s Candy Store in Williamsburg, a bar with a reputation as a haven for indie musicians. Known for hosting its weekly open mic for over 20 years, the venue has seen its fair share of rising talents.

Local artist Industry Monk was performing original material for the crowd, unaware that the evening would soon take a surreal turn.
Olivia Rodrigo later appeared and delivered a stripped-down version of her latest single, “Drop Dead,” the lead single from her upcoming third album, “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.”

In another, he wrote, “Thanks to [Olivia Rodrigo] for coming thru and supporting a place that celebrates indie artists in Brooklyn,” while also spotlighting his own music.
Over the years, Pete’s Candy Store has welcomed now-renowned artists like Vampire Weekend, Sufjan Stevens, Norah Jones and Joanna Newsom.
