Zelda Williams condemns AI videos of her late father Robin Williams

Filipino American filmmaker Zelda Williams voiced her frustration over the creation of AI-generated videos featuring her late father, Robin Williams, calling the trend both disrespectful and “gross.”

The “Lisa Frankenstein” director took to her Instagram Story to urge followers to stop sending her AI videos of her dad.

“Stop believing I wanna see it or that I’ll understand, I don’t and I won’t,” she wrote. Williams emphasized that while some may be trying to provoke her, “if you’ve got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop.”

In her post, she also expressed how disheartening it is to see technology being used to digitally recreate deceased public figures.

“To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to ‘this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that’s enough,’ just so other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening,” she wrote. Williams went further, saying, “You’re not making art, you’re making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music… Gross.”

Her late father, Robin Williams, was a beloved actor and comedian who passed away in 2014 at the age of 63. His influence continues to inspire generations, but for Zelda, using AI to mimic him crosses a line between tribute and exploitation.

Her comments arrive amid broader debates on the ethical use of AI-generated content. Recent reports, such as the BBC’s coverage of scammers profiting from fake AI Holocaust images, show how easily these technologies can be weaponized.
