“Wild Hearts,” which opened in theaters worldwide Aug. 12, chronicles the global girl group’s rise to stardom, from its formation through the reality competition series “Dream Academy” to its growing international success.

The documentary features never-before-seen footage, fan videos and interviews with the members, offering a closer look at the highs and lows of their journey. The film has also been described as a love letter to the group’s fans, known as EYEKONS.

“KATSEYE’s first-ever cinema event celebrates the passionate EYEKONS community that has embraced KATSEYE’s journey from the group’s formation to becoming one of pop’s most exciting new global acts,” Kymberli Frueh, executive vice president of programming and content acquisitions for distributor Trafalgar Releasing, said ahead of the release.

The film arrived during a busy period for Katseye. The group released its third EP, “Wild,” on Aug. 14, two days after the documentary’s theatrical debut.

The EP follows its 2025 release “Beautiful Chaos,” which debuted in the top five of the Billboard 200. Singles “Gnarly” and “Gabriela” also earned Grammy recognition and found international chart success.

‘Spider-Man’ remains No. 1

Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, remained atop the North American box office with $70 million in its third weekend.

Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” took second place with $23.2 million in its fifth weekend, followed by the Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor science-fiction adventure “The End of Oak Street,” which debuted with $21 million.

“PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie” opened in fourth place with $20.5 million, just ahead of “KATSEYE: Wild Hearts.”

Rounding out the top 10 were “SIX: The Musical Live!” with $3 million, “The Brink of War” with $2.6 million, “Toy Story 5” with $2.3 million, “One Night Only” with $2 million and “Vishwanath & Sons” with $1.6 million.

The overall three-day North American box office was estimated at $160.1 million. The year-to-date total reached $6.865 billion, up 19.4% from the same point last year, according to Rentrak.
