Netflix is preparing to debut a new scripted series that dives into the unconventional beginnings of a HYBE-backed pop group through the lens of a co-ed act with unexpected talent.
The project signals another move by HYBE America as it continues to merge music production with global storytelling platforms.
At the heart of the series is a group of aspiring performers who, after failing to break through traditional idol pathways, find themselves enrolled in a performing arts academy.
Initially labeled as outsiders, writes Netflix, the students gradually form bonds through shared setbacks and creative ambition. Their journey ultimately leads them to unite as a co-ed pop group, redefining what success looks like in an industry known for its rigid standards.
What sets the project apart is its dual release strategy. As the narrative unfolds on screen, the artists featured in the series will simultaneously release original music.
The series is co-produced by HYBE America, Netflix and digital creator Alan Chikin Chow, whose influence in online storytelling has reshaped how young audiences consume scripted content.
Chow has built a massive following through his YouTube franchise “Alan’s Universe,” which has over 130 million subscribers.
Chow described the project as a bold collaboration that unites top-tier creative forces from both Netflix and HYBE America, with the goal of introducing a franchise aimed at the next generation. He added that by working alongside globally influential teams known for shaping culture, the initiative seeks to raise the bar for storytelling.
HYBE has previously found success with this model. They introduced girl group KATSEYE through the 2023 audition program “The Debut: Dream Academy,” later offering fans an inside look at the process through Netflix’s 2024 documentary series “Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE.”
