Royal protection officers ‘stripped of palace access over misogyny allegations’

The Metropolitan Police has carried out an internal investigation into five of its Royalty and Specialist Protection officers after allegations of misogynistic behavior.

According to The Sun, a female member of staff at Kensington Palace raised an official complaint over a string of ‘inappropriate’ comments.

The alleged offenses took place between August 2023 and September 2024, before an official complaint was filed in October 2024.

A Met spokesperson said the reported behavior falls ‘below the high standards expected of officers’, but The Sun reported that senior Royal Household staff decided to stop them from working at any palaces in the future by removing their access passes.

The Met added: ‘As a result of our internal investigation into this matter, the officers received reflective practice to consider their actions and identify learning for the future.

‘It remains a priority for the Met to ensure all officers and staff uphold the highest standards of professionalism, so we can continue to build trust and confidence with those we serve.’

It is understood that the behavior of the officers was not found to meet the threshold for misconduct.

Still, the Sun reported that one officer reportedly said Kensington Palace was ‘full of little Hitlers’.

Police officers protecting the royal family at Windsor Castle are also facing an investigation over allegations they slept while on duty.

Several officers on protective duties from the Metropolitan Police’s Royalty and Specialist Protection team are being investigated after concerns were raised, The Sun reported.

Allegations include officers leaving posts unattended and sleeping while on duty.

The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) has launched an investigation, and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has been informed, the force said.

A decision from the DPS over whether any of the officers under investigation should be placed on restrictive duties is expected before the end of next week.
