The Filipino-led supernatural comedy series “Nurse the Dead” is set to premiere on Philippine Independence Day, June 12, on iWant.
The series stars Filipino American actress Jelynn Malone as Noa Reyes, a Filipina nurse set to supervise “the most haunted ward in Los Angeles.”
Ahead of the premiere, the series trailer was launched during Nurses Appreciation Month and Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
Shot entirely at a real Los Angeles hospital, the series spotlights the humor and camaraderie of Filipino nurses in the US.
It co-stars Filipino actors Gigette Reyes from “Freakier Friday,” Anthony Jennings from “Hello, Love, Again”
The show is set for eight half-hour episodes released weekly.
“Nurse the Dead” is the first scripted US series to revolve around Filipino healthcare workers.
“Comedy comes from pain. That’s how Filipinos grieve,” said series creator Mark Labella.
“I wanted a Filipino American kid to sit down and watch this with grandparents from the Philippines and a neighbor across the street who isn’t Filipino – and for all of them to laugh. And maybe cry. And then laugh again. Without Filipino nurses, this story wouldn’t exist.”
